Rutland stockade, Whanganui

Rutland stockade, Whanganui

This sketch was made on 20 July 1847 when British troops moved down from Rutland stockade, seen on top of the hill with the flag, and engaged Tōpine Te Mamaku's upriver Māori at St John's Wood. Each side suffered casualties, but in the end Te Mamaku's men withdrew.
