This cartoon by Ashley Smith from March 2002 shows Jim Anderton launching a new X-ray machine to be used by customs. New Zealand is an active supporter of international trade and transportation security standards in the fight against international terrorism. As a country whose economy is strongly based on agriculture and tourism, biosecurity is also extremely important. In 2002 Jim Anderton was acting minister of customs and minister of agriculture and biosecurity .
