With farms producing large amounts of meat, butter and cheese, the traditional New Zealand diet was overloaded with animal fats and there were high rates of heart disease and some cancers. Like others in the developed world, some New Zealanders have changed their eating habits significantly, in part to improve their health. Concerns about the effects of nutrition on health have been taken seriously by Māori health organisations such as Te Hotu Manawa Māori, which produced this poster advocating healthy eating.
