Another small tree with distinct juvenile and adult forms, haumakōroa (Raukaua simplex, formerly Pseudopanax simplex) grows in moist forest throughout most of New Zealand, including the subantarctic Auckland Islands. Juvenile plants have leaves with three to five deeply lobed leaflets. Adult trees have simple leaves, consisting of a long stalk and undivided leaf blade.
