Castle Hill Station was first taken up in June 1858.This photograph of the run and the Craigieburn Range from 1882 shows the impact of burning on tussock country. Burning removed shrubby plants and reduced the cover from tall-tussock to short-tussock species. The Craigieburn Range is heavily eroded.
