Story: Oneone – soils

Turi

Turi

This carving is of Turi, the captain of the Aotea canoe, who settled at Pātea because of the fertile soil. He confirmed its fertility by smelling it – reflected in the saying ‘Te oneone i hongia e Turi’ (the soil smelled by Turi).
