During the 1975 general election supporters staged a ‘Citizens for Rowling’ campaign, which enlisted high-profile New Zealanders’ support for Rowling’s low-key consultative approach, in contrast to the abrasive manner of National Party leader Robert Muldoon. However, the election was a landslide victory for National.
