Blood donor, 1952

Blood donor, 1952

Aucklander E. A. Matthews is shown here with a stack of bottles representing the amount of blood he donated between 1925 and 1952. Between the world wars techniques were devised to store blood, which helped to improve the success rate of operations. Donating blood became a regular practice for many New Zealanders.
