Story: Gender diversity

John Money

John Money

New Zealander Dr John Money (right), seen here with his friends, historian Michael King and author Janet Frame, was one of the world's leading authorities on gender identity and gender reassignment surgery, although some of his work was highly controversial. Money was born in Morrinsville in 1921 and earned a PhD from Harvard University in 1952. He was the author of many books, including Gay, straight, and in-between: the sexology of erotic orientation (1988). Money died in 2006.
