Ruia Mereana Morrison was born in 1936 at Tikitere, near Rotorua. As well as being the first New Zealand woman to go to Wimbledon, she won the national singles title six times. Morrison is regarded as one of New Zealand's best tennis players, with a career which spanned three decades.
