David and Naomi Lange with Indira Gandhi, India, 1984

Prime Minister David Lange visited India as part of his first official overseas tour after taking office in 1984. It signalled a change of emphasis in foreign policy. Lange reopened the High Commission and appointed Sir Edmund Hillary as the High Commissioner.
