Julie Kipa (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāi Tuwhiwhia), a tā moko (traditional tattoo) artist, concentrates on a thigh pattern together with her colleague Jo Tito. Julie is also a visual and multimedia artist, designer and writer. She holds several university qualifications and works as a lecturer, commentator, curator and consultant on Māori arts. Julie's work represents a modern revival of traditional Māori cultural forms, and is also a reinvention of traditional activities and occupations for a 21st-century society.
