The 30th anniversary of the occupation of Bastion Point (Takaparawhā), demanding the return of the land to Ngāti Whātua, was in 2008. Speakers featured in this news clip include Invercargill mayor Tim Shadbolt, MP Hone Harawira and long-time activist Te Ringa Mangu (Dun) Mihaka. Mihaka notes that his attempt to speak Māori in court had a significant influence on the final form of the Māori Language Act 1987, which provided for Māori interpreters in New Zealand courts.
