The many Māori based in Australia have hoped for many years to establish a marae in their adopted country. A hui in April 2010 formally launched the project to build a marae in Melbourne. Uncle Ringo, an elder of the local Wurunjeri people, was presented with a symbolic gift by the marae's koroua (male elder) George Te Whakaotinga Hallett (Ngāti Tūwharetoa). These architect's drawings show how the completed building may look.
