Story: Māori education – mātauranga

Te Komiti o Tupai manuscript

This text, in the handwriting of Pūrākau Maika, was written at Kehemane (Tākitimu meeting house) in 1904. It was part of a coordinated effort by Te Komiti o Tupai, a Wairarapa tribal committee, to record traditional history of the tribe. Much information from renowned tohunga Te Mātorohanga and Nēpia Pōhūhū was written down by the komiti.
