This 1916 newspaper clipping reports on the work of the War Pensions Board, set up the previous year. The board heard applications from veterans and their relatives. If it found that the veteran's death or disability was due to military service, it awarded a pension (a lifetime award) or an allowance (a shorter-term payment).
