L. D. Austin hits modernism for six, 1960

This Christmas card was designed by L. D. Austin, a controversial music critic and prolific writer of letters to the editor. It shows him at the age of 83, batting away the representatives of modernism in music, art and literature. Austin regarded modernist artists as destroying all that was good and beautiful, while he upheld Brahms and Chopin as the epitome of culture.
