This poster was issued by the High Commissioner for New Zealand in Britain, about 1912. It paints a prettier picture of servant life than most young women applying for domestic service jobs found when they arrived in the country. New Zealand employers were desperate for servants, and women’s groups petitioned Parliamentarians to offer subsidised fares for them.
