This graph shows death rates (the number of deaths per 100,000 people) and cause of death in 2015. Among the total population, cancer had the highest death rate, followed by heart disease. Men had higher rates than women for all causes of death except for breast cancer. Māori had higher death rates than the total and non-Māori population for all causes apart from colorectal cancer and melanoma.
