This programme is from the 10th Auckland Festival held in 1958. The first festival was in 1948 and focused on musical performance. It diversified in 1953 to include lectures, piano recitals, band concerts, orchestral works, ballet, film screenings and art exhibitions. Ballerina Rowena Jackson and other well-known artists became patrons of the festival. Programmes from the 1950s and 1960s show four or five events per day. Slide through to see the map of locations of events and performances. The image by number seven alludes to the thanksgiving service which was held at St Matthew's church at the start of each festival.
