Forest cleared for farmland

Forest cleared for farmland

The forest has been cut down, the area burnt and grass sown on these Northland hillsides, around 1910. The photograph was probably taken a few years after burning – timber is still lying on the hillsides, but there has been time to build a farmhouse, sheds and a stockyard.
