A crowd queues to register their motor vehicles at the concert chamber of Wellington town hall in 1950. On the walls are road safety posters, but none of them are about drinking and driving. The crackdown on drink driving only achieved a measure of success in the 1970s, once breathalysers had been introduced in 1969.
