In the 1980s some people with haemophilia were infected with Hepatitis C after receiving contaminated blood. The Haemophilia Foundation of New Zealand organised protests as part of a campaign to get the government to compensate sufferers. In 1999 protesters held the 'wall of shame vigil for victims of bad blood' in Parliament grounds in Wellington.
