New Zealand cows in Sri Lanka, 1965

New Zealand's aid to Asian countries was relatively modest, mostly made under the Colombo Plan agreement of 1950, and generally in areas where New Zealanders had particular expertise. In 1965 New Zealand gifted a herd of Jersey dairy cows to Ceylon (Sri Lanka), in the hope that this would help stimulate the dairy industry there. This train is taking the cows to Ambewela Farm.
