Disabled soldiers race at the annual Wellington limbless soldiers' picnic at Worser Bay in the 1920s. The annual picnic, organised by the Evans Bay Yacht Club, provided one of the few opportunities for 'limbies', soldiers with leg amputations, and 'wingies', soldiers with arm amputations, to compete in a range of sports events. While the events were informal they were divided according to the veterans' disabilities to ensure fair competition.
