An Auckland Island snipe (Coenocorypha aucklandica aucklandica) wanders in the Bulbinella rossii herbfield on Enderby Island, one of the northern Auckland Islands. The bird is closely related to the Antipodes Island snipe and Snares Island snipe, and a fourth relative was discovered in 1997 on a tiny and almost inaccessible rock, Jacquemart Islet, off Campbell Island. Snipes are now extinct on mainland New Zealand.
