The locally bred brindle Misty Anna is generally regarded as the best greyhound to race in New Zealand. She won 59 of her 113 races (57 at a middle distance, two in sprints), and was placed 32 times. When retired in 1993, she had earned $115,777 – an astonishing amount at a time when stake money was much lower than in the 2010s. Misty Anna was owned and trained by John (Pop) and Mae Wilson of Mosgiel, who travelled all round the country with her (they were fondly known as 'The Travelling Road Show'). Misty Anna won on all nine tracks, a unique feat unable to be repeated, since two have since closed. She won 24 feature races, including 15 at Group level, and in 33 of her races recorded the fastest time for that particular event. Her presence at various racecourses and exhibitions generated wide interest in greyhound racing.
