Performance art was closely allied with post-object art. Feminist artist Juliet Batten directed the 'One hundred women' project at Te Henga, a beach on the west coast of the North Island near Auckland, for ANZART in 1985. The project was part of an ongoing commitment to explore women's identity through art. Batten, who saw links between women's lives and the cycles of nature, incorporated ritualistic elements in the performance.
