The exchange between and mixing of different forms of dance can be tracked over centuries – social and folk dances of different cultures can all contribute to a particular dance or group of dances. Latin American ballroom dancing, such as the rumba and cha-cha, draws on Spanish and Portuguese court dance, and forms of Latin American indigenous and African dance.
