Tourists observe and photograph seabirds from one of the boats operated by Albatross Encounter, a Kaikōura ecotourism company. Boats take passengers out to sea to see the diverse range of seabirds in the vicinity of the Kaikōura Peninsula, including albatrosses, petrels, shearwaters, shags, terns and gulls. Guides on board provide a commentary and help identify the birds. A small proportion of each Albatross Encounter fare goes towards the Encounter Foundation, which helps fund bird conservation programmes.
