Ko te ingoa Māori mō ēnei kapua 'cirrus' he iorangi. Ka ahu te kupu cirrus i te kupu Latin mō te ‘wisp of hair’. Ka mutu, ko te io, he ōrite, he ‘lock of hair’. Ki roto i te reo Ingarihi e mōhiotia ana ēnei kapua he whiore nō te hōiho uwha.
