Until 1964, when Massey University established a veterinary school, the University of Sydney and University of Queensland were New Zealand’s main source of veterinary graduates. New Zealand students had to compete with Australians for places in the schools. This class of veterinary science graduates from the University of Queensland in 1965 contained 16 New Zealanders (profiles outlined). Some, such as Tony Mitchell (second row, second from right), also brought back Australian brides.
